What to expect for 2021 Design Trends: Which are staying and which are going?

We asked the the Founder of Functional Creative Design what trends she thinks are staying which are going in 2021. Here is what she had to say to us.

Now that we are spending more time at home, 100 percent of our time to be exact durability & functionality is key. The traditional separation of common areas in the home are truly null and void; and no longer work. With flexible schedules for work at home along with children doing their on-line courses.

Want to keep all white interiors no worries, why don’t you try to mix some patterns and colors in some the decorative elements, pillows and throws to start.

There is a trend that has been growing style over the past 12 months that evokes comfort and traditionalism. Things such as antique paintings, floral wall paper and vintage china. As if you went shopping at your grandparents house.

We like to give this a twist look for patterns that pay homage to the old but are fresh and new.

Designing integrated work space solutions is key; along with insightful creative design solutions for play, mindfulness are essential for any house hold.

Cold Neutrals colors are out Earthy warm tones colors bring outdoors inside like greens/blues are key for 2021. All white interior walls is also coming to an end.

I really believe we will see unique ways of using color through out peoples homes.

No matter which you pattern direction you decide you will give some interesting details to your solid color furniture like the image to the right; and will create a more holistic warm interiors.

Multi-functional furniture pieces are also key to make your space more functional so no more one off pieces that have on function.

When it comes to super minimal space that really out the door, embracing more pattern that reflect the traveler in you - while we where unable to travel globally in 2020 - 2021 is embracing decorative pieces that remind us of where we have been and where we want to go - more geometric patterns + rich in colors.
